Seven peonies in Phuket: the count one pair of hands can deliver
Seven stems sit between two clear ideas. A few peonies read as a small gesture and ask nothing of anyone, an armful reads as an occasion, and seven is neither. On an island where most addresses are reached by car and finished on foot, that middle position turns out to be the useful part.
A bunch this size travels upright on a back seat without a frame or a crate. It goes through a villa gate, up a resort stairway and along a corridor in one hand, and it can be handed over in a single movement without anyone putting anything down first.
Where the count does its work
Handed over in person, seven peonies fill a forearm and look like a decision. The recipient sees a proper bunch rather than a token, and nobody has to clear a table to make room for it.
It also suits a room with limited surfaces. A hotel room with one console table, a villa kitchen counter, a table set for dinner by the sea: this is roughly the largest count those spaces take without being taken over, and the bunch still holds a domed shape as the heads open.
Four occasions where it lands well:

- An airport arrival, where somebody is already carrying luggage and cannot take an armful as well.
- A quiet anniversary dinner, since the bunch fits a two-person table without blocking the view across it.
- A family date at home, where the bunch has to share a table with the food.
Getting it to the address
Along the west coast, through Patong, Kata, Karon, Kamala, Surin and Bang Tao, the run takes 90 to 180 minutes. Villas, marinas and the airport have their own windows, and airport work is timed against the flight rather than against a delivery slot.
Rain from May to October slows the hill roads, and evening traffic on the same bends does the rest. We add the time to the route in advance.
Phuket Town, Rawai, Chalong and Mai Khao sit further from the west coast run and are quoted on their own. It is worth naming the district rather than the hotel when you order, since two properties with similar names can sit at opposite ends of the island and the difference between them is most of a delivery window.
The state it should arrive in
Air here sits between 25 and 33 °C and stays humid, which pushes a peony through its stages faster than a cool room would. For a same-day handover we take buds with the outer ring just moving, and for anything two or three days out the tightest heads in the cold room.
Peonies come to the island in seasonal batches, so what is available shifts week to week. Chrysanthemums, hydrangeas and Thai orchids cover the same table when a batch has run out, and we will say which of them is actually in the workshop instead of promising the peonies twice.
