Peonies by stem count in Phuket: numbers borrowed from roses overshoot
An open peony head is roughly the width of three rose blooms. Every number people bring across from rose buying is therefore too large, usually by more than they expect. Fifteen peonies make an armful that is genuinely awkward to hold, and twenty-five is a table arrangement pretending to be a bouquet.
Nine is where most orders land. It gives a full dome, it sits in an ordinary vase without rebuilding, and one hand carries it across a room.
A single peony works in a way a single rose does not, because the head is large enough to hold a room on its own. In a narrow glass on a desk it reads as a deliberate object. Three or five is the morning gesture, the kind left on a table or handed over with a card. Above fifteen the message stops being private and becomes public, which is right for a stage and wrong for a quiet dinner.

Weight decides more of this than sentiment does. The head is heavy and the stem below it is soft, so a large bunch is top heavy and tips the moment it is set down. Anything above fifteen stems wants a wide, heavy vase already waiting at the other end. If you do not know whether the recipient owns one, a smaller count in a container that comes with the flowers is the safer order. That question costs nothing to ask and saves an evening.
The island half of the arithmetic
Where the bunch is going does more to the count here than the occasion does. An airport arrival wants one or three stems, because whatever is handed over has to survive a car and a hotel check in. A dinner by the sea wants a count low enough to sit between two people talking across it.
Resort birthdays are where the number climbs. Rosewood Phuket, The Slate Phuket, Trisara, Banyan Tree Phuket and Veranda Resort Phuket all have surfaces and staff, so a large count has somewhere to stand and somebody to set it down. A villa is much the same. A rented apartment usually is not, and that is where nine beats twenty-five every time.
We work 9 AM to 10 PM, and the west coast runs 90 to 180 minutes with separate windows for villas, marinas and airport routes. Big counts go out earlier in the day.
Seasonal peonies come in batches, so the ceiling on a count is set by the delivery and not by the order form. In a week without a shipment, twenty-five does not exist at any price. Hydrangeas and imported roses fill out a bunch when that happens, with the peony stems counted separately. Chrysanthemums and tropical foliage do the same job lower down.
Air at 25 to 33 °C with island humidity pushes a count upward in volume without anyone adding a stem. Nine tight balls on Monday carry the width of a much larger bunch by Wednesday. Judge the density against the vase it is going into.
Width arrives without being ordered.
Monsoon showers between May and October and evening traffic on the hill roads add time to a route. A large count goes out more closed on those days, since open heads bruise against each other at every turn.
