### Hydrangea bouquets in Bali: one head, and the rest becomes texture A hydrangea head is not a single flower. It is a frame carrying a hundred small florets, wide enough that three stems read as an armful, and that width settles the rest of the bouquet before anyone has picked a second flower. Imported roses standing next to it stop being the event and turn into texture inside a mass. That is either the whole point of the arrangement or a waste of a good rose, depending on what was ordered. Ranunculus, lisianthus and tropical foliage do better work in that position, because a broken edge interrupts the sphere instead of arguing with it. The second round shape is the usual mistake. A seasonal peony or an open garden rose gives the bouquet two centres, and one of them has to lose. Stem length is the lever worth using instead: a short stem drops the head into a dome, a longer one lifts it clear so the bouquet carries across a room. Colour is the part nobody can promise from an order line. Macrophylla hydrangea comes in through the same channels as the roses, and blue is the least repeatable shade in the trade, since the pigment answers to the acidity of the soil the plant grew in. For a Jimbaran wedding table we confirm the shade against what actually landed that week. #### Getting it to the address Seminyak, Canggu and Sanur take 90 to 150 minutes. Uluwatu, Tabanan and the villas further out take up to 3 to 4 hours, and hydrangea is the flower where that gap stops being an administrative detail. Above 30 °C, and with the humidity that comes with it, we use firm wrapping and a cooling element, and on the long runs the stems go in vials as well. The rainy season runs November to March and the drier months are roughly April to October, though the weather changes the timing rather than the packing. What we do not do is open the box anywhere on the way. Access takes longer than driving on most orders here. Villa gates are shut, the person who opens is often staff rather than the recipient, and a box that waits by a wall is a box this flower does not forgive. - The area, since Seminyak and Uluwatu are two different jobs. - A phone number that answers during the delivery window. - Who opens the gate, the recipient or somebody working there. - Whether there is a vase in the house. A villa kitchen usually has something wide and heavy standing in a cupboard, while a hotel room rarely does, and a hydrangea propped in a water jug leans over by morning. We work 9 AM to 10 PM, orders start from 650000 IDR, and payment goes through QRIS, GoPay, OVO, DANA or cash to the courier. Ubud dinners and Nusa Dua hotel rooms usually get an afternoon slot, while anything going to an ocean villa we try to put in the morning. Hotel addresses come with their own limit. Hydrangea bouquets in Bali are built differently for those two, mostly in stem length and in how much foliage goes around the head.
