### Combo sets in Bali: the first ten minutes indoors This box is built to be taken apart. In a humid tropical climate that is not a preference, since above 30 °C the fruit half and the flower half start pulling in opposite directions the moment the lid is opened. We wrap firmly and pack a cooling element to get the set to a table, and what happens after that is out of our hands. So the useful part of this page is the part about the table. The delivery is the easy half. #### The walk from the gate Seminyak, Canggu and Sanur sit in a 90 to 150 minute window, while Uluwatu, Tabanan and remote villas run up to 3 to 4 hours. Access is what makes the difference at the end: a gate at the top of a track means the courier parks and carries, and a combo set is heavier than a bouquet of the same size because of the tray, the chilled insert and the water in the vials. It travels level, in two hands, the whole way. Delivery runs 9 AM to 10 PM, and from November to March the rains add their own time to a route. Orders start from 650000 IDR. Fruit goes into the fridge, ideally still in its tray and uncovered rather than sealed under film. Chocolate goes somewhere cool and away from both, since it will not survive the fridge in good condition and will not survive a warm room either. Ten minutes of this buys the flowers their full week, which is the best return available anywhere in an edible order. Recipients hesitate at exactly this point, and the hesitation is understandable. The arrangement looks composed, dismantling it feels like undoing somebody's work, and on a villa terrace it also looks like the centre of the table. It is still the right move, and saying so on the card does more good than any packing decision we make. Left assembled overnight, the flowers stand dry while the fruit sits warm. Both halves lose ground together, which is a slower and more complete failure than either one on its own. There is one exception worth knowing. If guests are due in a few hours, the set keeps better closed and cold than opened early. The largest fridge in the house is the right place for it until people arrive. Three things go to three different places. - The stems, into a glass or vase of cool water. - The fruit, into the fridge in its own tray. - The chocolate, somewhere cool that is neither of those. #### When to choose something else If nobody can take the parcel in person, a plain bouquet does the job better. Villa staff will accept a delivery and put it somewhere sensible for flowers, which is rarely somewhere sensible for fruit, and by evening half the gift has gone. The same applies when the recipient is travelling on the day, or moving between Ubud and the coast with a box in the back of a car. Weight is worth a thought as well, since a tray and a bouquet together are more than one person wants to carry across a resort. Send the area, the gate name and the hour somebody is there. We will time the box to arrive close to that hour, and we will write the unpacking instruction on the card so the flower half gets its week instead of an evening on a table.
