200 cm roses in Bali: weight, and the question to answer first

Two metre rose bouquet being carried by two people at a Bali venue

Two metres of stem under the largest heads in the range make a bouquet that two people carry comfortably and one person carries badly. That sentence is most of what there is to know about this grade. Nobody holds it for long, and that is a large part of why it belongs at an event rather than in a living room.

Orders start at 650,000 IDR and close through QRIS, GoPay or cash to the courier, and we take orders from 9 AM to 10 PM.

Handling damage is the fault people misread. A head knocked against a doorframe bruises at the outer petals, the bruise browns overnight, and by the following afternoon the flowers get blamed for something a gatepost did.

"When somebody sends us a photograph of a browned outer petal, we ask about the doorway before we ask about the water."

The weather makes the waiting worse

Above 30 °C in humid air, a bouquet that is standing in water is fine and a bouquet that is waiting in a car is not. That distinction matters more at two metres than at any other length, because there is no reserve in the stem to spend on waiting.

Rain adds time rather than damage. From November to March we build in extra route time, and the long grades leave in the morning whatever hour the event is, since the flowers are better off waiting here in deep water than waiting anywhere else in wrapping.

Distance decides the rest. Seminyak, Canggu and Sanur sit at 90 to 150 minutes, while Uluwatu, Tabanan and villas off the main roads take 3 to 4 hours, and at that distance a two metre bunch spends its whole journey lying flat.

Three things to settle before you order

  • where the bouquet will stand between arriving and being used, since a deep bucket behind a stage does more for it than any vase and costs nothing to arrange
  • what will hold it afterwards, because a household vessel of that height does not exist in most rented villas
  • how it gets from the vehicle to the room, counting steps, gates and anywhere the bunch would have to be turned.

The second answer decides the honest expectation. For a recipient at an ordinary villa the stems will be cut down the same evening, and there is nothing wrong with that as long as everybody knew in advance.

Nobody holds it for long

Plan the handover around that rather than against it. The bouquet gets carried out, given, photographed and taken away again, and the person who takes it away should be agreed on before the event starts rather than found in the middle of it. On a stage that is an assistant. At a villa dinner it is whoever was asked in advance.

Tall roses standing in a deep bucket in the shade at a Bali venue

Two minutes is a realistic figure for how long somebody stands holding two metres of stem. Everything after that is somebody looking for a wall.

The count follows from the same arithmetic. Heads at this grade are the largest in the range, the space between them is part of how the bunch reads, and every extra stem is extra weight in the arms of the person being photographed. Fewer stems built well is not a saving here. It is the correct build.

Where it earns the length

Jimbaran wedding venues and open villa terraces are where two metres does something no shorter grade manages. There is height above the guests, an open horizon behind them, and a bouquet that reads from the far side of the lawn.

Alila Villas Uluwatu and Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve are addresses where we always ask to be met at the gate. The grounds are the difficult part rather than the road.

Carry it heads backwards, over a shoulder, along a straight line, and slow down at corners rather than at doorways. Then answer the two questions above before the order is placed, and this grade behaves for a whole evening exactly as it was meant to.
