Seven peonies in Bali: where the count runs out of room
Scale is judged against the room, not against the flowers. The same bunch that fills a kitchen counter looks apologetic on a long villa table, and that is the mistake people make most often when they order for an address they have never stood in.
Rooms that swallow this count
An open villa living room with the wall folded back to the garden is the clearest case. There is no ceiling to bounce the shape off and no wall behind the vase, so a seven-stem bunch reads from the pool as a small pale spot and nothing more.
Terraces and venue tables do the same thing. On a wedding table at Jimbaran or a long dinner setting at a resort in Nusa Dua, the count is read as a statement of effort, and a middling bunch is the one nobody remembers by the end of the evening.

Photographs are the other weak point, and here it is the flower rather than the room. Peonies read by mass. Shot from the front, a middling count looks thinner on a screen than it did in the hand, which matters when the whole reason for sending flowers to a villa is that somebody will post the picture that evening.
What to send instead
For a large room, go up in count rather than adding filler. Gypsophila and tropical foliage packed around a peony bunch soften the outline without changing its size, and from a few steps away the result reads as padding.
With a small budget and a small space, going down beats going sideways. Three or five stems of a good cultivar look deliberate, while the same money spread across more stems of a lesser grade looks tired within two days, and two days is not long in this climate.
For a villa nobody is staying in yet, or any address where water will not be changed daily, peonies are the wrong flower at any count. Lisianthus and ranunculus hold better in the same room, macrophylla hydrangea covers a wide table on its own, and an orchid outlasts every one of them without asking anything from the person who finds it.
What the island adds
Above 30 °C in humid air, peony buds move a stage faster than the schedule allows. Firm wrapping and a cooling element travel with every bunch, and the tighter the buds leaving the workshop, the more of the opening happens where somebody can see it. We deliver from 9 AM to 10 PM.
Distance is the other factor. Seminyak, Canggu and Sanur sit in a 90 to 150 minute window, while Uluwatu, Tabanan and villas off the main roads take 3 to 4 hours, so a bunch for those addresses is built earlier and leaves earlier for the same handover time.
Peonies here are seasonal and arrive in batches, so the honest answer to a count question sometimes involves a date rather than a number. A week either side of a delivery can be the difference between a full choice of stages and whatever is left in the cold room.
